My Greatest Week

For the last few days, I have been thinking a lot about the things that I have seen, heard or read that have impacted my life in some way or made quite an impression over the years. Usually, you do that from time to time when you’re about to hit some kind of milestone like the big 30 or marriage or something. I’m not hitting anything of the sort so I don’t know what this is all about but for whatever reason, it’s here, and it’s what I’m going to talk about this week.
  1. My greatest books
  2. My greatest classics
  3. My greatest movies
  4. My greatest movie lines
  5. My greatest songs
My Greatest Books (Part One)

When I was 16, a British Council library opened up in my city. I desperately wanted to join but the minimum age was 18 so I used my dad’s library cards to borrow books. After a while, they decided to enforce the age limit rules and informed my dad I was going to be denied further access to the library. I caused such a ruckus when I heard the news; he had to apply for a special permit allowing me to join. As soon as my membership was confirmed, I promptly apprehended my big sister’s library cards as well. Combined with mine, I had 12 cards total. I would show up at the library on Monday to borrow 12 books and return them the next Monday all set to borrow another 12. As time went by, I think the library staff believed I wasn’t really reading 12 books a week and was only trying to be a show off. If only they knew. Although I no longer read 12 books a week, my passion for reading has not stymied since those days. I have been stacking my library devotedly for 3 years and will continue to stack it as long as I live. It will be one of the greatest treasures I will leave to my children when I depart this earth.

It is very hard to narrow down the books I would consider my greatest reads as each one has its own special message. However, there are some, which are in a special league.
