Teensy Weensy Milestone

I have been going through some kind of stilted period as per my writing. This evening when I went to pick up my mail, what I found in my box lifted my spirits completely. It was a package I’d been waiting for since last month. As soon as I saw the postmark on the medium sized bubble envelope, I knew where it was from. It was my copy of Delivered, the book where one of my short stories – Coup d’etat – appeared in the March edition. The story had previously being rejected thrice and I didn’t hold out much hope when I sent it over to Delivered. I was quite surprised when I received an email from the editor three weeks later informing me they were going to publish it.

In my car, a few minutes later, I turned the book over in my hands for a while looking at it, smiling at it and smelling it; yes I said smelling it. Afterwards, I raced through the pages to where my story appeared and even though I already knew it word for word, I read it anyway, savouring the feeling of my teeny weensy moment. I also discovered a copy of the book is stocked at the British library. To think that something I wrote is in a library somewhere and someone is going to read it someday makes me feel really good. It’s times like this that I am reminded of how much I love writing and why I can’t stop writing. It’s not The New Yorker but it’s still a publishing credit under my belt and a hard earned milestone. I hope the next milestone is bigger and closer than I think.

You can click here to read Coup d’etat. If you like my story, please vote for it as the favourite by sending an email to delivered@hotmail.co.uk mentioning my name and the story title. Thanks for reading.

I think it's too late to vote for your story to win but it's a very funny story. Didn't quite see the caramel hunk coming. Did you win?

Thanks. I didn't win unfortunately. Next time I believe.
