In this case, the devil is also known as facebook - the social networking site that has become an almost primary form of communication. Everyone I know, their mothers and their great grandmothers have a facebook account. It has provided an excellent avenue for people to reconnect with long lost friends, keep in touch with current friends and maintain a professional profile. It is also an outstanding way for people to reveal their tomfoolery for the entire world to view. Siblings take slingshots at each other over private family matters, cheating boyfriends/husbands have found themselves on the side walk after being unwittingly caught out on facebook, lovers have battles of epic proportions, online and offline, due to improperly clarified relationship statuses, and God help anyone whose wall is littered with suspicious sounding posts from a girl or guy unknown to their spouse. Let’s not forget people who call their bosses names on Facebook, completely forgetting the boss in question is on their friend’s list. Such calamity over a website!
There is no denying that social media is here to stay and it does have its distinct advantages when it comes to professional networking but what is it about it that makes people act such a fool on it, especially when the likelihood of it coming back to hunt them in future is extremely high? Whatever happened to conducting private business in private and keeping it between the parties involved?
I’ve heard facebook referred to as the devil in disguise trying to ruin the world but could there be a possibility that some people lack sound judgment and have an over inflated sense of themselves? When used for the purpose it was created, Facebook can be a very powerful tool but when misused, as with all things misused, it will eventually backfire.
Facebook wisely and remember, it’s just a website.
