Time to Start 2011

I woke up this morning and got fed up of having bad day after bad day since Jan 1 so I took one look around and launched into a feng shui frenzy. My apartment looked completely different by the time I was done. I then sat down at the computer and thought about the things I want to achieve in 2011. I ended up with a list of 20 things but I figured that was a bit unrealistic so I narrowed it down to the list below:
  1. Finish my book Tapestry by any means necessary!
  2. Focus on studying for and passing my CMP exam. It’s a professional certification for meeting planners. At well over $3, 000 for registration & exam fees, joining a study group, flight ticket to exam venue and hotel accommodation, this is one exam I do not have the luxury of failing.
  3. Get into a fabulous fully funded writers residency programme.
  4. I’d really like to pull an “eat, pray, love” thing in 2011 but I’ll have to settle for going somewhere new and exotic sometime this year. At the moment, I’ve narrowed it down to Djibouti, Seychelles, Tanzania & Maldives.
  5. Write more short stories. I never got into this because I can’t really do me in less than 3 pages but it’s supposed to help a writer learn how to write tightly. Since Chrissie’s Quest was accepted for publication in UK last week I guess I should put in more effort. I’m going to start off with Child Woman – a story about sexual abuse and The Immigration Ring – a story that popped into my head after I was turned down for a US visa the 3rd time in a row. You can read about that mess here -> Love’s Adversary 1 & Love’s Adversary 2
  6. Donate more to charity.
  7. Learn how to swim. I’ve been saying that every year for the last 15 years. This has got to be the year it happens .
Moving forward, I’m going to make a vision board. A vision board helps to clarify and maintain focus on goals. If they're in front of you constantly, it’ll be a bit harder to lose sight of them. I’ll post pictures once I put the board together.

Here’s hoping tomorrow is the start of no more bad days for a while.
