I woke up this morning and got fed up of having bad day after bad day since Jan 1 so I took one look around and launched into a feng shui
frenzy. My apartment looked completely different by the time I was done. I then sat down at the computer and thought about the things I want to achieve in 2011. I ended up with a list of 20 things but I figured that was a bit unrealistic so I narrowed it down to the list below:
- Finish my book Tapestry by any means necessary!
- Focus on studying for and passing my CMP exam. It’s a professional certification for meeting planners. At well over $3, 000 for registration & exam fees, joining a study group, flight ticket to exam venue and hotel accommodation, this is one exam I do not have the luxury of failing.
- Get into a fabulous fully funded writers residency programme.
- I’d really like to pull an “eat, pray, love
” thing in 2011 but I’ll have to settle for going somewhere new and exotic sometime this year. At the moment, I’ve narrowed it down to Djibouti, Seychelles, Tanzania & Maldives.
- Write more short stories. I never got into this because I can’t really do me in less than 3 pages but it’s supposed to help a writer learn how to write tightly. Since Chrissie’s Quest was accepted for publication in UK last week I guess I should put in more effort. I’m going to start off with Child Woman – a story about sexual abuse and The Immigration Ring – a story that popped into my head after I was turned down for a US visa the 3rd time in a row. You can read about that mess here -> Love’s Adversary 1 & Love’s Adversary 2.
- Donate more to charity.
- Learn how to swim. I’ve been saying that every year for the last 15 years. This has got to be the year it happens .
Moving forward, I’m going to make a vision board. A vision board helps to clarify and maintain focus on goals. If they're in front of you constantly, it’ll be a bit harder to lose sight of them. I’ll post pictures once I put the board together.
Here’s hoping tomorrow is the start of no more bad days for a while.
