I had written earlier about an agent that wanted to see some more of my work. I sent this off a few weeks ago and honestly didn’t expect to hear back from her until just before the apocalypse but received a response today to my surprise. It was an inglorious end to an extremely shitty week for me.
It wasn’t all negative but it wasn’t all positive either. I’ve been through this a hundred times before and I know what’s up but still, it’s a bummer every time. It’s not like I was having dreams of topping bestseller lists everywhere and getting translated into 50 languages or something. Ok, maybe I was a little but still….

Anyway, like I said it wasn’t all negative. Let’s just say I have a lot more work to do and keep it at that. I have faith in my talent and myself and it’s going to take more than the 1,000th rejection to make me give up. As soon as I pull myself out of the doldrums, I’m going to dust my shoulders and remind myself of Sinclair Lewis’s immortal quote – “It is impossible to discourage the real writers - they don't give a damn what you say, they're going to write.”
