Cancer isn't selective neither does it discriminate. It can happen to anyone. There are over 100 types of cancer, which mostly develops over a long period of time due to internal and external factors.
While there are no guarantees in life, there are a few simple changes you can make in your daily life which can lower your risk of getting cancer
- Stock up on fruits and veggies – the more colour in your diet, the better. I have a tough time getting fruits in so I make smoothies every morning instead with a different variety of fruits.
- Stay fit anyway you can. You don’t have to be a fitness nut. As little as 20 minutes power walking a day can help or using the stairs instead of the elevator.
- Stop smoking.
- Drink alcohol in moderation.
- Drink gallons of water, much more than the recommended 6 – 8 glasses a day.
- Drink tea everyday. I recommend green tea, which research, has shown protect against a variety of cancers as well as heart disease.
- 1 multivitamin a day can improve the functioning of the immune system.
- Practice safe sex and stick to one partner. Multiple sexual partners increase the risk of HPV in women, which leads to cervical cancer. Having an unfaithful sexual partner also increases her risk.
- Stay out of the sun and use sunscreen at all times.
- Know your body. If something doesn’t feel right, get yourself checked out immediately. Early detection saves lives.
This isn't an exhaustive list, but these 10 simple steps have been proven to work. Take control of cancer prevention in your life today!
